The republic of Indonesia forms a long bridge of over 13.000 islands between the continents of Asia and Australia. It extends 5100 km from Sumatra in the west to Irian Jay in the east, before Australians Northern coast. The total coastline is 54.716 km, a lot of space for breathtaking lonely beaches, if you bear in mind that only a small part of the islands is inhabited.

The rich landscape and nature of Indonesia, which are in many parts untouched, support a variety of animals and plants. The archipelogo offers living space for elephants, tigers, leopards and Orang Utans. Neither little is the variety of species in the water. The republic of Indonesia aims to protect the living space of so many partly unique living beings and has therefore appointed large areas national parks. Such areas are for instance the underwater national park Taka Bonerate and the national park Komodo, where the unique Komodo dragons live.

The climate is characterized by monsoons. It is mainly tropical. The temperatures are steadily high with an average of 30 degrees Celcius, but the sea winds lower these temperatures a bit. Air moisture is about 80 %. The winter months are dominated by East - West Monsoons and their raintime. That is why the best time for travelling is between March and November.

The official language is Bahasa Indonesia and the currency is Indonesia Ruphia. As Indonesia is very big, the time difference is between +6 to +8 hours ( compared to Middle European Time ) depending on where you are in Indonesia. The capital is Jakarta. Religions are distributed as follows : 87 % Muslims, 10 % Christians, 2 % Hindus, 1 % Buddhist. People in Indonesia are very tolerant of others, but set great store by respectful and polite manners. Main tourist destinations are Bali, Lombok, Sulawesi and Sumatra.

Tanjung Aan

A left on the west side of the bay, can be O.K. at 3 ft and up, this wave shifts around a lot.
Transport: 20 minutes walk around the beach from Kuta Indah or 5 minutes from Novotel.

Sigar

Best in a small swell 1-3foot. A shorter right peak, which can sometimes barrel, although is easily affected by wind. Best at Midtide.

This wave is also known as Bangko-Bangko, it has established itself as a top surfing point. This Left - Hander has a fast inside section, with a shifty take-off area, it barrels and walls along the reef, a long ride…. Best on Mid-tides.

Nusa Lembongan

The ideal add-on to Bali. Within of hours of leaving the Bali mainland, you will be in another world on the Island Paradise of Nusa Lembongan with friendly locals and a fantastic array of surf on your door-step. To the north-east lie the popular surfing breaks Playgrounds, Shipwrecks and Lacerations that skirt the seaweed farms in front of Jungut Batu village. Directly below stretches an underwater coral garden, far behind on the horizon towers Bali’s sacred volcano Mount Agung. The clear sheltered bay is a safe haven for outrigger canoes. Lounge on the deck of “Bulan Purnama” or get out there and get into the surf action.

As mentioned, there are 5 main breaks in Nusa Lembongan:

2. Razors – a rarely makeable, left barrel, that on it’s day is a long full suck turbo tube.
3. Lacerations – A high speed, hollow right barrel.
4. Playgrounds – a mellow left and right peak that provides a wave when the swell is small and the tide is low.
5. Cheningan’s – a rarely surfed left off the temple on Nusa Ceningan that is surfed when the swell is small and the winds light.

BOAT BUILDING

Long before European people discovered Indonesia, the big wooden ships called Pinisi, loaded with heavy goods, sailed from the archipelago of the “Spice Islands” to the Chinese Sea and the Arabic Golf. The Pinisi Al Isra, Ananda, Bulan Purnama and Aliikai were built by a traditional shipyard on the beach of South Sulawesi to combine the culture and the charm of the last centuries with safety and comfort of the new millenium. This is the opportunity for the modern traveller to follow the old trading routes and to discover the various island and underwater world of Indonesia. With great effort in traditional handwork, the building of a boat takes upto two years.
Regulary the boats are maintained on the dry dock in their home port in Bira, South Sulawesi during the raining season (December until February).
